History

The Colonial Tailors Chalk began in 1906 in Williamsburg, VA and is still operating to this day.  It has been known under three separate company names and has had three separate locations in the USA.  I am not sure exactly when each operated and if they ever overlapped but I do know that J. Hershkowitz Inc. was associated with the Brooklyn, NY location.  They specialize in marking products for the textile industry which includes industrial crayons along with chalk.  Only their wax crayons form a cylinder shape similar to most other types of crayons.  The other tailor crayons are square or rectangular in shape and easier to use marking textiles.
